Uplifted (2020) is a quintet that takes you on a journey of highs and lows; starting from a dark place and moving towards happiness. The piece uses hand percussion (clapping, stomping, and snapping), a wide range of dynamics, and the extended technique of
singing and playing. The piece opens with a somber solo for the flute. As the tempo
accels, the other instruments join in and begin to lift up the down mood. Uplifted
was written as a reflection of the composer’s feelings during the first few weeks of quarantine.
